Hamburg, NY--- Chester invader Bertos Angel, a five-year old Ken Warkentin mare, out of the Incredible Abe mare Spark Of Abbey, won the $10,000 Open Trot in 2:02, for owner, Scott D. Woogen of Mechanicsville,VA, here at Buffalo Raceway Friday night (January 20). It was the first win this season for Bertos Angel, who won her last two races last year at Chester to end the season.
Bertos Angel ($6.00) leaving from post six, and driven by reinsman Kevin Cummings, left alertly and settled in fourth, as Jam And Jelly (Ron Beback, Jr.) hit the quarter-mile marker in :30.3, and the half in 1:01.4. Eventual second place finisher Hello Carlo (Jack Flanigen) was first-over down the backstretch, with Bertos Angel right behind. It was a good stretch battle between the top two that saw Bertos Angel prevail by 1-1/4 lengths at the wire. Isthatallyougot (Shawn Gray), the favorite in the race, finished third.
Trained by Lisa Lederhouse, it was the twelfth lifetime win, in fifty attempts, for Bertos Angel, whose lifetime earnings now stand at $197,050.
Three drivers recorded driving doubles on the night. Last year’s leading dash winner Jack Flanigen scored with Mikey ($13.40) and Dawnza Albrit ($5.40). Ray Fisher, Jr., got his picture taken with Infrontigo Hanover ($9.50) and Kill A Mockingbird ($3.20). Newcomer Shawn Gray hit with Mainspring ($13.00) and Real Jenna ($5.10).
