$578,362 and Counting for Hometown Favortie Michael Scores
Hamburg, NY---When he wins, people in the grandstand still cheer. That’s exactly what happened Saturday night (July 3) here at Buffalo Raceway where Michael Scores, a nine-year old gelded son of Held For Ransom, and one of the all time favorite horses ever to pace on this half-mile oval, won the $9,000 Open Handicap Pace in 1:55.3 for owners James and Sandra Compton, of East Bethany NY.
Capably driven by reinsman Tom Agosti, Michael Scores ($29.00) the longest shot on the board at13-1, left from post two and settled in third as eventual second place finisher, and favorite in the race, Arm And A Leg (Kevin Cummings) cut all the fractions, :28.2, :58.2, and 1:27.1. A :28 last quarter-mile by Michael Scores put him one-length in front at the wire. Cry For Cash (Ron Beback, Jr.) came in third.
Trained by Jim Compton, it was the fourth win of the season for Michael Scores, and the $4,500 share of the winning purse boosted his season’s earnings to $22,115 and $578,362 lifetime.
Racing will resume on Sunday July 4, with first post scheduled for 1:05 P.M.
