Nifty Prescott Wins the Open Handicap Pace

Hamburg, NY---Nifty Prescott, a six-year old Million Dollar Cam gelding, out of the Jenna’s Beach Boy mare Shannon Deja Vu, won the $9,000 Open Handicap Pace, in a season’s best 1:56.2, for owner Betty Tauber, here at Buffalo Raceway Saturday night (January 23)

A step up in class didn’t seem to bother, Nifty Prescott ($13.00) as regular driver Ken Holliday used a different approach this week, and came from off the pace, with a :28.4 last quarter-mile, to beat second place finishers New York Prime and reinsman Tom Agosti by 1-3/4 lengths at the wire. Long shot Gooch’s Bad Boy (Nick Roland) came in third.

“This is a really nice horse,” said Holliday. “He just needed lasix, and he’s a totally different animal”.

Last week Nifty Prescott received lasix for the first time, and then went out and won the $7,500 Open II by 7-3/4 lengths.

Trained by Ken’s wife Sherri, it was the second win in two attempts this year for Nifty Prescott, and the $4,500 share of the winning purse put his seasons bankroll at $8,250, and $161,432 lifetime.

Racing will resume on Wednesday January 27, with first post scheduled for 6:40 pm.
